Fatima Sana Shaikh is gearing up to star in Manish Malhotra’s Gustaakh Ishq - Kucch Pehle Jaisa. She will portray Minni, a bright, middle-class girl whose capacity for love shapes the emotional core of the film.
The actress recently talked about her character in the film and said, “Minni isn’t written as a grand heroine, but she’s a woman, you know, she - like many of us - carries dreams that don’t always fit her world.
The actress also shared what fascinated her most about Minni and added, “Minni reminded me of so many girls I’ve known, who are strong, grounded, quietly hopeful. She’s someone who believes in love, but on her own terms. There’s dignity in her stillness.”
The movie explores a kinder era of chai, shayari, and unspoken desire. Minni is described by Vibhu Puri as the "heartbeat of Gustaakh Ishq."
Vibhu said, “Fatima is the beating heart of the film. There’s something disarmingly human about the way she makes silence feel like dialogue.”
Vijay Varma plays a man learning the language of poetry, and Naseeruddin Shah plays a soulful shayar. Minni's story takes place in the voids between their worlds and words.
Set in the fading kothis of Punjab and the lived-in lanes of Purani Dilli, Gustaakh Ishq tells a love story steeped in the warmth of old-school romance. Directed by Vibhu Puri, the film also stars Vijay Varma, Naseeruddin Shah, and Sharib Hashmi, with music by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics by Gulzar.
The film is slated to hit the theatres on November 28.
