Fake Voter IDs of actresses surface online

Just days before the crucial by-elections in Hyderabad, a strange and unsettling discovery has caught the attention of both voters and authorities.

Fake voter ID cards featuring the names and photographs of well-known Telugu film stars including Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Rakul Preet Singh have started making the rounds on social media.

A closer look on the IDs reveals something off, that all three cards list the exact same residential address: “8-2-120/110/4” in Jubilee Hills.

Unsurprisingly, officials have confirmed the documents are entirely fake.

As per NDTV, the issue came to light when Syed Yahiya Kamal, Assistant Electoral Registration Officer for the 61-Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency and also Assistant Municipal Commissioner of GHMC’s Yousufguda Circle-19 filed an official complaint.

The police have now registered a case and launched an investigation into who might be behind the bogus documents.

According to the complaint, these fake IDs have been circulated with altered photos, addresses, and invalid EPIC numbers all under the names of the three actresses.

“Certain individuals have been spreading false information on social media, alleging that some film actresses were listed in the electoral rolls with modified addresses, photographs, and invalid EPIC numbers,” the complaint noted.

The Election Commission has taken the matter seriously and has begun a formal inquiry.

Additionally, officials have cautioned the public against believing such rumours or disseminating unconfirmed information, threatening legal action against those who disseminate false information that might tamper with the election process.

This isn’t the first time Jubilee Hills has seen such incidents. Earlier this month, Telangana Congress leader Naveen Yadav was booked after images emerged in the press showing him allegedly handing out fake voter ID cards to locals.

That case, too, raised eyebrows and questions about electoral integrity.
