  • Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan reunite for this horror-comedy
  • Release timed for school holidays to attract family audiences

Producer Ekta Kapoor has recently teased the upcoming star-studded film, Bhooth Bangla, which will hit the theatres just a few weeks after two big-budget action films, Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups.

However, the film’s producer has now revealed why she decided to release the film despite the big films being expected to dominate the box office.

Toxic, starring Yash, and Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar 2, which came out in December 2025 and reportedly made over Rs 1300 crore worldwide, will compete at the box office on March 19. Ekta maintains that the date of her film is intentional despite the hectic schedule.

According to PTI, she noted that both action films will have had a successful run by the time Bhooth Bangla arrives. She also mentioned that for many families, the April window coincides with school breaks.

Ekta said, “By the time we will release our film, both Dhurandhar and Toxic would have had a good run. Our film releases when the exams of some school students would’ve been over and it will be a holiday period.”

Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan are reunited in Bhooth Bangla after 14 years. Together, they had previously produced a number of popular comedies. The proposal, which was presented by Cape of Good Films and Balaji Motion Pictures, a branch of Balaji Telefilms Ltd., has created a lot of excitement.

The film embodies the spirit of their previous successful endeavours, according to Ekta, who referred to the actor-director team as "soulmates."

She said, “When we wrote Bhooth Bangla and went to Akshay sir, he heard and liked it. The only thing we told him is that we wish that Priyadarshan would direct the film, and he instantly jumped at the idea.”

In addition to Akshay, the ensemble in the horror-comedy includes Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Rajpal Yadav, and veteran actor Asrani, who died in October 2025.

In the context of Priyadarshan's comedic universe, Ekta referred to the five-actor combination as "deadly." She stayed realistic when asked if the movie may lead to a franchise.

“Franchise are not made or planned, if it works then it turns into a franchise," she said.

Bhooth Bangla is slated to hit the theatres on April 10, 2026.
