The news of Dharmendra's death left coworkers, fans, and admirers struggling with the loss of a man who had been a cherished fixture on the silver screen for more than 60 years, and a profound sense of sorrow descended upon the Indian film industry on Monday.
Members of the film industry gathered to pay tribute to a life that had touched many hearts, and the legendary actor's final farewell at the age of 89 was met with an outpouring of love and respect.
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, both visibly moved also came to pay their respects at the crematorium.
Paparazzi posted a video showing their car pulling up to the crematorium and both of them entering dressed in white.
Ranveer had shared the frame with the veteran star in Karan Johar’s 2023 hit Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, a vibrant celebration of old-school Bollywood in which Dharmendra delivered one of his most memorable late-career performances.
The film later won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The actor’s last big-screen appearance will now be in Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis, due for release on Christmas 2025.
The day began with a heartbreaking procession from Dharmendra’s Juhu home, where his mortal remains were placed in an ambulance shortly after noon.
Family members followed in a quiet convoy, their grief palpable as they made their way to the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle. Hema Malini, Esha Deol, and Sunny Deol were all seen fighting back tears as they prepared to perform the final rites.
Throughout the afternoon, several towering figures of Indian cinema arrived—Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt—each carrying their own memories of the star who had shaped so many lives with his generosity, warmth, and gentle humour.
