Bobby Deol has once again opened up about the challenging phase in his career during the 2010s when work was scarce, and his film projects struggled at the box office. Speaking to Shubhankar Mishra on his podcast, Bobby revealed the lengths he went to during this period to stay relevant in Bollywood.
Recalling his struggles, he shared that he would say “I am Bobby Deol. Please give me work” directly to directors and producers when visiting their offices. “There is nothing wrong with that. At least they will remember that Bobby Deol came to meet me,” he explained.
The actor described how deeply the slump affected him. “I had given up in life once. I went through a phase. But when nothing is in your hands, then something makes you realise that you had something which is why you had such a great start. A voice tells you that you still have it and if you don’t get that again, you won’t move forward,” he said.
Bobby Deol made a strong debut with 1995’s Barsaat and went on to star in hits like Soldier, Badal, Bichoo, and Ajnabee. However, the 2000s and early 2010s brought a string of flops, and the actor faced long stretches without work. “I often stayed at home for days, waiting for opportunities that didn’t come. It was a difficult time, both professionally and personally,” he admitted.
The actor’s career revival began with Prakash Jha’s streaming series Aashram, which helped him reconnect with audiences and regain his footing in the industry. His momentum continued with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s 2023 blockbuster Animal, where Bobby played a pivotal antagonist role and proved his versatility. He is currently back in the spotlight with Aryan Khan’s The Ba***ds of Bollywood.
Up next Bobby will be seen in spy thriller Alpha, the historical drama Hari Hara Veera Mallu, and the comedy sequel Housefull 5. He is also slated to reprise his role as Baba Nirala in the fourth season of the web series Aashram. Other projects include the Tamil political action film Jana Nayagan and Bandar, directed by Anurag Kashyap.
