Yash Raj Films has officially announced a new release date for its much-anticipated action entertainer Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. The film, which marks Alia’s first collaboration with YRF and her grand entry into the YRF Spy Universe, will now hit theatres on April 17, 2026. The studio confirmed that the decision was driven by the need to give the VFX team more time to deliver a visually stunning and technically flawless cinematic experience.
A YRF spokesperson explained the move, saying, “Alpha is an extremely special film for us and we want to present it in its most cinematic self. We have realised that the VFX will take a little longer than what we had initially assumed. We want to leave no stone unturned to make Alpha into a theatrical experience for everyone to cherish. Thus, we will now release the film on April 17, 2026.”
Alpha features an exciting ensemble cast including Alia Bhatt, Sharvari Wagh, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol. The film is part of YRF’s growing Spy Universe — which already includes blockbuster franchises like Pathaan, Tiger, and War — but what sets Alpha apart is that it’s the first female-led action film in the universe. Alia and Sharvari will reportedly go head-to-head against Bobby Deol in a high-intensity, adrenaline-fueled showdown.
The film’s delay, while disappointing for fans eager to see Alia’s action debut, is being seen as a strategic and quality-driven move by the studio. A trade source close to the project revealed, “The Alpha team wants to put out the best film for audiences to enjoy. It’s a fair move by YRF. The VFX team was under a lot of pressure with regards to timelines which were seeming unrealistic. So, the push of release date is due to this only and not because of the current cluttered release window from Avatar to the end of January 2026.”
Sources further confirmed that significant post-production work remains, especially for the complex action sequences that form the heart of Alpha. Given YRF’s ambition to set new benchmarks for visual storytelling in Indian cinema, the studio is taking extra time to ensure that every frame meets international standards.
With Alpha, Yash Raj Films not only introduces its first all-women action duo but also promises a new benchmark for how female-led action thrillers can be imagined in India — gritty, powerful, and truly cinematic.
