A massive fire broke out at a high-rise residential building in Mumbai on December 26, triggering panic among residents and leading to dramatic rescue operations by emergency services. The blaze erupted at Sorrento Tower, a 23-storey residential complex located on Veera Desai Road in Andheri West, one of the city’s densely populated neighbourhoods.
According to initial reports, the fire started around 10:00 am in an electrical shaft and rapidly spread across multiple floors, reportedly from the 10th to the 21st levels. Thick smoke engulfed large sections of the building, trapping several residents inside their apartments and forcing others to seek immediate help.
Among those caught in the incident was actor Pushkar Jog, the runner-up of Bigg Boss Marathi Season 1, who was stuck inside his home along with his young daughter Felisha.
As the fire intensified, Pushkar took to Instagram to alert authorities and his followers, sharing a distressing message that read, “Fire in my building.. I’m stuck Please help. I can’t come out of my house with my daughter. It’s fire everywhere.”
Firefighters from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, along with teams from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Mumbai Police, rushed to the spot and launched a coordinated rescue operation. Using specialized equipment, officials evacuated trapped residents floor by floor amid heavy smoke and limited visibility.
Pushkar Jog and his daughter were safely rescued, a development he later confirmed on social media. Expressing gratitude despite the devastating loss, he wrote in a follow-up story, “Rescued, thank you real life heroes for fire fighters, BMC and Mumbai police. My house is gone.” Videos shared online later showed extensive damage to his apartment, underlining the scale of destruction caused by the blaze.
Filmmaker Sandeep Singh was also among those evacuated from the building. He reportedly received assistance from actress Ankita Lokhande and her husband Vicky Jain, who helped ensure his safe exit during the chaos.
On social media, fans and colleagues poured in messages of concern and support for Pushkar and his family. Many expressed relief that no lives were lost, while others praised the swift response of the fire and civic authorities.
The fire was classified as a level-one incident by the Mumbai Fire Brigade. While the exact cause is still under investigation, preliminary information points to an electrical malfunction. Authorities have confirmed that cooling operations continued for several hours, and a detailed safety audit of the building is expected to follow.
