Anupam Kher has once reflected on his baldness

Veteran actor Anupam Kher was seen in an episode of Aap Ki Adalat, where he revealed his first look as Mahatma Gandhi in Vivek Agnihotri’s upcoming film The Bengal Files. He left audiences both amused and inspired during his appearance on Rajat Sharma’s show.

Anupam Kher first shared how deeply he immersed himself in the role. “Doing Mahatma Gandhi's role is a dream for any actor,” he said. “I had to toil hard for one year. Besides losing weight, I stopped eating non-vegetarian food and quit alcohol since August last year.”

But it was his brutally honest and hilarious story about his struggle with baldness that stole the spotlight. Recounting his early days in Bollywood, Kher revealed the extreme lengths he once went to in hopes of regrowing his hair. “I used to visit producers with my gold medal in acting, and they would say, ‘You don’t have hair.’” Determined to find a solution, he tried multiple remedies.

One suggestion, he shared, involved using camel urine. “I went to Juhu beach in search of camel urine,” Kher laughed. “I didn’t know a camel takes 3–4 days to urinate.” Carrying a plastic bag, he followed camels around only to discover, “Jab karta hai toh barsaat hoti hai!” (When a camel urinates, it’s like rainfall!) Despite all the effort, he concluded, “Magar kuch nahi hua” (nothing happened).

He also admitted to trying Tibetan medicine, to no effect. “Yet, in spite of this, though I was bald, I was picked up by Mahesh Bhatt saab for Saaransh. Jo nahi hota hai, woh hota hai,” he reflected.

The Bengal Files: Right To Live is based on the 1946 Great Calcutta Killings and the Noakhali riots. It will be released on September 5 this year. Apart from Anupam Kher as Gandhi, it stars Mithun Chakraborty, Puneet Issar and Vatsal Seth as Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
