Anupam Kher left audiences deeply moved during his latest appearance on Aap Ki Adalat. He recalled a profoundly emotional moment from his life — his father’s final message before passing away.
When Rajat Sharma asked him about his father's influence, Anupam Kher fondly recalled, “Mere father mere sabse bade fan the. He used to praise even my worst films.” He spoke about his father’s humble lifestyle — always traveling by train and proudly telling strangers that Anupam Kher was his son.
He shared how a co-passenger asked for proof. “At 2:30 AM, I performed a dialogue over the phone — ‘Rana Vishwa Pratap Singh, Dr. Dang ko aaj pehli baar kisi ne thappad maara hai...’ That’s when they believed him.”
After his father's death on February 20, 2012, Anupam Kher and his family opened a mysterious tin box the late man had always kept locked. “We found all my press clippings, cards, and even underlined bad reviews — that was his love for me,” he said.
Anupam Kher broke down on the show recounting his father’s final hours. “He had starved himself. Food was like sand, water was like acid.” Anupam was urgently called from Goa. He rushed home to find his father frail and silent, holding a pen and paper. “He tried to write but only made lines. Then he whispered two words into my ear — ‘Live life.’ That was his last message to me.”
Holding back tears, he added, “What more lesson can a father give to his son? Isiliye main har kshan, har pal, ji ke dikhlata hoon.”
Anupam Kher’s first look as Mahatma Gandhi in Vivek Agnihotri’s upcoming film The Bengal Files was unveiled on the show. Speaking about preparing for the role, he shared, “Doing Mahatma Gandhi's role is a dream for any actor. I had to toil hard for one year for this role. Besides losing weight, I stopped having a non-vegetarian diet and alcohol for the last one year, since August.”
