British musician Damon Albarn led the animated band Gorillaz, has created a buzz online lately after the announcement of his most recent album, The Mountain. The band’s upcoming album has strong ties to India.
According to News18, the animated band will partner with Anoushka Shankar and none other than Asha Bhosle. The animated band's ninth album, The Mountain, is set to be released next year. After the release of The Mountain, Gorillaz also revealed plans to tour the UK and Ireland.
The Mountain will be the band's debut single under the new label KONG, and it will be released on March 20, 2026. According to reports, the album was recorded in a number of Indian cities, including Varanasi, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Mumbai.
Additionally, artists Asha Bhosle, Anoushka Shankar, Asha Puthli, Ajay Prasanna, and Amaan & Ayaan Ali Bangash collaborated on the album.
'The Happy Dictator, a single from the upcoming album, has also been released by Gorillaz, the brainchild of Albarn and Jamie Hewlett.
In addition to the Indian connections, the album features collaborations with rapper Mos Def, former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, and Syrian electro-folk singer Omar Souleyman. The Mountain, which features vocals by Bobby Womack and Mark E. Smith and Tony Allen, comes after the 2023 release Cracker Island.
The performers are known for their performances in languages like Arabic, English, Hindi, Spanish, and Yoruba, showcasing a distinctive fusion of various musical traditions and cultures.
In addition to India, London and Devon's Studio 13 served as the primary recording locations for The Mountain. The album was also recorded in New York, Miami, Ashgabat, Los Angeles, and Damascus.

On March 21, 2026, Gorillaz will begin their upcoming nine-day tour in Manchester. On June 20, 2026, they will perform at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. All nine concerts' ticket sales will begin on September 19.
The band will also make stops at BP Pulse Live in Birmingham (March 22), Ovo Hydro in Glasgow (March 24), First Direct Arena in Leeds (March 25), Utilita Arena in Cardiff (March 27), Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham (March 28), M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool (March 29), The SSE Arena in Belfast on March 31 and 3Arena in Dublin on April 1.
