The stormy chapter between filmmaker Anil Sharma and actress Ameesha Patel, which unfolded during the release of Gadar 2, appears to have gradually settled with time.
At the height of the controversy, Ameesha Patel had voiced her disappointment, admitting she felt ‘cheated’ when the film’s climax was altered without her knowledge. The actress had expected a more substantial role in the Sunny Deol-led blockbuster.
Anil Sharma, in response, dismissed the rift by calling her ‘moody’ and remarked in an interview that while everyone is entitled to their perspective, he continued to regard her as “a part of his family.”
Asked whether their equation had improved since, Anil Sharma told News18 Showsha: “My equation with Ameesha is great now. Waqt ke saath saath sab cheezein sahi ho jaati hai. Abhi sab badhiya hai! [Time heals everything. Now everything is good]"
However, reports suggest Ameesha Patel has set another condition — she will agree to reprise Sakeena only if her love story with Tara Singh remains central to the plot. When quizzed on this, Anil responded, “Sakeena and Tara are an integral part of Gadar. But we’ll discuss more about her character before the release of Gadar 3."
Ameesha, meanwhile, did not shy away from addressing the issue publicly. In a chat session on X, she conceded that they had ‘creative differences’ and clarified she would only commit to Gadar 3 if she felt ‘super excited’ about the script, much like she had with the original Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.
Speaking later on a podcast with Maniesh Paul, she further alleged that portions of Gadar 3’s climax had been filmed without her involvement. Nonetheless, she added that she preferred to ‘let bygones be bygones’. At the same time, she insisted she would only proceed with the third instalment if proper paperwork and contractual safeguards were put in place.
The director confirmed that the script for Gadar 3 is ready and assured fans that the wait would not be nearly as long as the 22-year gap between the first two films. “Gadar 3 will definitely get made… We’re hoping to take it to the floors in the next two years. We’ve already worked on the script. It will focus on the stories of Tara and Jeete," he explained.
Anil Sharma also fondly recalled the unparalleled success of Gadar 2, released in August 2023, which became the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of the year. “On the evening of August 9, we sold about 20 lakh tickets. I think no other film has been able to create that kind of history," he said proudly.
