Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with actor Akshay Kumar, took part in a beach cleanup drive at Mumbai’s Juhu Beach following the Ganesh Visarjan festival in September.
But, Amruta soon found herself at the centre of online criticism, not for the event itself but for her outfit.
Many social media users thought her fitted beige co-ord outfit, which looked like a gym attire, was "inappropriate" for the event. The trolling soon began, with some internet users paying more attention to her clothing than the cleanup's objective.
The Sea Shore Shine 2025 Ganesh Chaturthi Cleanup Drive aimed to address the pollution caused by the submersion of Ganesh idols and other waste materials while also promoting sustainability and cleanliness.
In a recent YouTube interview with Curly Tales, Amruta was questioned about the criticism and how she responds to it. She acknowledged that her style choices have frequently drawn criticism, which occasionally detracts from the causes she advocates for.
Speaking candidly, she said, “A few times that has happened. I feel bad about it, not because I get trolled, but because we worked very hard to create awareness about some important issues and bring about change.”

Amruta clarified that although she was initially disappointed that her attire was being used as a talking point rather than the environmental cause, she has since learnt to accept it.
"I choose to view such experiences as lessons in staying consistent and committed to making a difference," she continued, adding that she is still focused on her work and goals.
