Amitabh Bachchan donates Rs 11 Lakhs to Lalbaugcha Raja

Everyone is aware about Amitabh Bachchan’s devotion to Lord Ganesha. Year after year, the megastar makes it a point to visit Mumbai’s famed Lalbaugcha Raja along with his family, joining millions of devotees to seek blessings from lord Ganesha during Ganesh Chaturthi.

There are reports that suggest that this year, his offering was especially generous. The Sholay actor donated a remarkable Rs11 lakh to the pandal, a gesture that quickly attracted the eyeballs of the fans.

The moment was captured in a video that spread rapidly across social media. Shared by celebrity photographer Viral Bhayani, the clip showed Lalbaugcha Raja’s secretary, Sudhir Salvi, holding up a cheque in front of the towering idol.

The caption read: “Amitabh Bachchan Ji generously donated Rs 11 lakh to Lalbaugcha Raja, received by Secretary Sudhir Salvi ji!.”

Every year, Lalbaugcha Raja becomes a magnet for not just ordinary devotees but also celebrities who line up to seek Bappa’s blessings. It was the same this season as well, with stars like Shilpa Shetty, Malaika Arora, Janhvi Kapoor, and Sidharth Malhotra spotted at the pandal

But beyond these celebrity appearances, Lalbaugcha Raja is extraordinary because of its deep-rooted history and cultural belonging.

It was established back in 1934, the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal has since grown into Mumbai’s most iconic Ganesh celebration.

They are affectionately called the “Navasacha Ganpati” which translates to the fulfiller of wishes and the idol draws millions each year, with devotees standing in queues for hours just to get a glimpse of the deity and to keep their prayers in front of bappa.

Amitabh Bachchan can be currently seen in the 17th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati on Sony TV or Sony LIV.

On the acting front, Amitabh most recently starred in the action drama film Vettaiyan, which was directed by T. J. Gnanavel in 2024.

In the movie, Rajinikanth plays Athiyan, a senior police officer who, while looking into the murder of a teacher, unintentionally shoots an innocent person during an encounter killing.
