A curious cross-decade comparison has taken over social media, and Akshaye Khanna has landed at the center of it. As his entry scene in Dhurandhar continues to trend across platforms, an unexpected video from 1989 has resurfaced and triggered a wave of speculation about whether the actor may have inadvertently echoed his father, Vinod Khanna.

The conversation began after footage from a charity concert in Lahore reappeared online earlier this week. The clip shows Vinod Khanna dancing onstage with Rekha, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, and cricketer Javed Miandad during a high-profile cultural event. The energy is casual and unfiltered, the camera shake unmistakably retro, yet the moves have drawn striking comparisons to Akshaye Khanna’s viral dance moment in Dhurandhar.

That parallel caught fire once users on X began stitching the two videos together. One viewer wrote, NVM I got it, Akshaye Khanna has copied his father in Dhurandhar, a tongue-in-cheek observation that quickly spread. Others chimed in, pointing out the similarity in the looseness of movement, the swagger, and the rhythm that defined both father and son in their respective eras.

Akshaye’s entry scene has been widely celebrated since the film’s release. He appears as Rehman Dakait, a politically connected crime lord in Pakistan’s Lyari district, and arrives in the story with a dance sequence set to FA9LA by Flipperachi. The track, already popular in Gulf hip-hop circles, has exploded once again thanks to the film’s momentum, pairing seamlessly with the actor’s improvised performance. Co-actor Danish Pandor recently revealed that the choreography wasn’t choreographed at all. Akshaye simply walked in and danced, and the team decided to keep it.

Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, builds its world around an Indian spy navigating terror networks across the border and features an ensemble that includes Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, and debutante Sara Arjun. Amid that crowded cast, Akshaye’s entry has emerged as one of the film’s most replayed scenes, partly because of its swagger and partly because it fits snugly into the internet’s favorite narrative: heritage, legacy, and genetics finding a rhythm of their own.

Whether Akshaye intended to channel Vinod Khanna is anybody’s guess. What the viral moment really shows is how a grainy concert video and a glossy action thriller can accidentally collide, creating a brief cultural loop where the past and present nod at each other.
