The Hera Pheri franchise, which began in 2000, has firmly established itself as one of India's most cherished comedy series. With iconic characters, memorable lines, and enduring humor, the films remain a favorite among fans. Featuring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal, the first two films became cult classics.

Filmmaker Priyadarshan, who helmed the original Hera Pheri, recently sparked rumors about his possible return to the franchise. This speculation arose after a playful interaction on social media, which followed Akshay Kumar’s birthday greetings to the director.

On Priyadarshan's birthday, Akshay Kumar took to social media to share a behind-the-scenes moment from their upcoming film, Bhoot Bangla. Adding his signature humor, Akshay joked about celebrating among "real ghosts and unpaid extras," while also expressing his gratitude for the director's guidance and mentorship.

Priyadarshan’s reply, however, grabbed the attention. In a playful tone, he acknowledged Akshay’s message and jokingly teased, “In return, I would like to give you a gift – I’m willing to do Hera Pheri 3. Are you ready @akshaykumar, @SunielVShetty, and @SirPareshRawal?"

In a recent chat with Pinkvilla, Akshay expressed his continued excitement for the third installment of Hera Pheri. He mentioned that, just like the fans, he’s eagerly awaiting the film's return and suggested that production might begin this year if everything falls into place. Looking back on the franchise's journey, he confessed that when they first created Hera Pheri, they never imagined it would leave such a lasting impact.

He mentioned, "Even after watching it, we found it funny, but we had no idea characters like Babu Bhaiya, Raju, and Shyam would become such legends."

Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar will soon reunite on screen with their upcoming supernatural comedy Bhoot Bangla. The film boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Akshay Kumar, Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Mithila Palkar, and Wamiqa Gabbi. Produced by Ekta Kapoor, Bhoot Bangla is scheduled for release in theaters on April 2, 2026.

Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar have delivered numerous cult classics to audiences, including Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), Bhagam Bhag (2006), and Khatta Meetha (2010), in addition to Hera Pheri.
