The Telugu film Agent, starring Akhil Akkineni, is finally coming to an OTT platform after its theatrical failure. The film was originally released in cinemas on April 28, 2023, but it did not perform well at the box office. Now, after nearly a year, it is set to stream on SonyLIV starting March 14, 2025.

Directed by Surender Reddy, Agent was a spy thriller with high expectations. Akhil Akkineni underwent an intense physical transformation for the role, sporting a muscular body and a rugged look. The film also starred Mammootty, Dino Morea, and Sakshi Vaidya in key roles.

Plot of Agent

The story follows Ricky, played by Akhil, a passionate and ambitious RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) agent. His mission is assigned by Colonel Mahadev, also known as The Devil, played by Mammootty. Ricky goes undercover to track down a former RAW agent named Dharma, also called God, played by Dino Morea. Dharma is planning something dangerous that could threaten the country, and Ricky must stop him. Sakshi Vaidya plays Vidya, an aspiring pilot training officer at NASA. The film also features Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in a crucial role, while actress Urvashi Rautela appears in a special song.

Box Office Disaster

When Agent was first announced in 2021, there were high expectations from fans and the industry. The film had a big budget of ₹85 crore and a strong star cast. Additionally, Akhil Akkineni’s new muscular look created a lot of buzz before the release. However, when the film finally hit theaters, it failed to impress audiences.

According to Sacnilk, Agent collected only ₹10.05 crore in India and around ₹13.4 crore worldwide, making it one of the biggest flops of Akhil’s career. Before this, Akhil had acted in movies like Hello, Mr. Majnu, and Most Eligible Bachelor, but none of them became massive hits.

Akhil’s Reaction to the Film’s Failure

After Agent’s failure, Akhil released a statement thanking his cast, crew, and producer Anil for their hard work. He admitted that they tried their best, but the film did not perform as expected. He expressed regret for not delivering a good film to his fans.

OTT Release Announcement

For a long time, fans wondered when Agent would be available online. Even producer Anil said he was unsure about the delay in the OTT release. However, SonyLIV finally announced that Agent will be available for streaming from March 14, 2025.
