Bollywood filmmaker Aditya Chopra has recently earned a UK Stage Debut Awards nomination for his Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical on Thursday.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, aka DDLJ, starring Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan in the lead roles of the 1995 film, was recently transformed into a theatrical production. The musical premiered in the UK in May and enjoyed a successful run at Manchester’s Opera House.
Aditya Chopra directed the English-language stage production, which revolves around the love story of Simran and Roger.
The awards panel said in the statement, “This year there are several individuals with South Asian heritage being recognised for their excellence in directing: among the nominees is Amit Sharma for Ryan Calais Cameron’s ‘Retrograde’ (in the Best Creative West End Debut category).”
Adam Karim, who is nominated for Guards at the Taj at the Orange Tree Theatre in London, and Aditya Chopra, a pioneering Indian filmmaker, who is nominated for Come Fall In Love at the Opera House in Manchester, are also in the running for Best Director, the statement said.
Now in its eighth year, the annual Stage Debut Awards honour up-and-coming actors, writers, directors, designers, composers, and lyricists in an effort to strengthen their standing in the business.
The Best West End Debut Performer is the only category selected by public vote, and the winners of the 2025 awards will be revealed at a lavish ceremony in London on September 28.
