Abhay Verma talks about Karan Johar support after Munjya

Abhay Verma, who earned widespread recognition for his performance in the 2024 film Munjya, recently shared how Karan Johar reacted after watching his successful film. Verma revealed that the renowned filmmaker, who is often associated with the industry's elite circle, sent him a heartfelt message congratulating him on his work.

While talking on on Filmfare’s show In The Ring With Filmfare , Abhay was asked about the most heartwarming message he received after the success of Munjya, Verma revealed that it was from none other than Karan Johar, someone he described as a pioneer of the industry.

"It would be the one who forged the industry – from being an assistant director to directing his films – the recent one being Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. I am talking about Karan Johar. He sent me the fondest message," Verma shared.

Although he refrained from revealing the exact contents of the message, Verma expressed how it made him feel deeply appreciated: “The message was so sweet that it made me feel like I know him for ten years. As if I were a major part of his life. That’s how welcoming and comforting he was.” He also added that for someone like him, who came from outside the industry, such gestures of kindness were especially meaningful. "Whenever you come from outside the industry, you just want that comfort sometimes, that people are welcoming towards you, and personalities like him appreciate the talent."

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has long been criticised for accusations of nepotism and favouring those from established industry families. However, actor Abhay Verma’s recent experience with the director-producer offers a refreshing perspective that could challenge these perceptions.

Munjya, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, was a significant success and Verma credits this achievement to his ability to stay detached from the outcome. "I never felt that it was a one-in-a-lifetime project or it is going to be a flop. I always had the purest intentions while shooting for the film," he said.

Apart from Munjya, Verma has featured in films like Safed, Ae Watan Mere Watan, and the critically acclaimed The Family Man web series. Reports suggest that he will next be seen in Shah Rukh Khan’s King, directed by Siddharth Anand.
