The 16th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025 kicked off in grand style, and all eyes were on Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan as he arrived with his girlfriend, Gauri Spratt. The duo made a striking appearance, walking hand-in-hand at the red carpet and instantly becoming the center of attention.
Aamir Khan, one of the festival’s most esteemed guests this year, looked dapper in a white traditional ensemble layered with a sleek black bandhgala coat. Gauri Spratt complemented his look with a vibrant purple bandhni-print salwar suit paired with a beige dupatta, exuding understated elegance. Their chemistry and poised presence quickly set social media buzzing, with videos of their arrival circulating widely.
The festival’s opening day press conference was equally star-studded, with attendees including comedian-actor Vir Das, acclaimed performers Tillotama Shome, Jim Sarbh, and Aditi Rao Hydari, along with celebrated filmmakers Shoojit Sircar, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, and RS Prasanna (Sitaare Zameen Par director), as well as casting director Mukesh Chhabra.
Speaking about his participation, Aamir expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying,
"It’s great to be here in Melbourne. I’m elated to be part of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. It’s a wonderful initiative that brings people and cultures together. I’m certain the films and filmmakers here will have a great experience."
The actor is also riding high on the success of his latest release, Sitaare Zameen Par, which was warmly received by critics and audiences alike. The film had a special screening in Mumbai ahead of its theatrical release, attended by Gauri and Aamir’s sister, Nikhat Khan Hegde.

Interestingly, Aamir had previously shared in a podcast with Raj Shamani that his relationship with Gauri began unexpectedly — they met “by mistake,” became friends, and eventually fell in love.
Running from August 14 to 24, IFFM 2025 will feature a rich lineup of film screenings, panel discussions, and the annual Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony, all supported by the Victorian Government. With Aamir Khan’s presence, the festival’s celebration of cinema has gained even more star power this year.
