For her performance of the song Chaleya from the movie Jawan, singer Shilpa Rao received the National Award for Best Playback Singer on September 23.
She looked stunning in a black bandhgala outfit appropriate for the formal setting when she attended the award ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.
Over the last few years, Shilpa has been mesmerising the audience with soulful songs such as Khuda Jaane, Meherbaan, Chaleya, and Bulleya.
Shilpa Rao will return to her hometown of Ranchi after winning the award, where friends, family, and admirers will celebrate and congratulate her.
When the winners of the 71st National Film Awards were announced on 1st August, she had dedicated her win to everyone who supported her and to her hometown, Jamshedpur.
This year’s National Film Awards celebrated outstanding accomplishments across India’s rich and diverse film industry. In the acting categories, Shah Rukh Khan won Best Actor for Jawan, while Vikrant Massey also received the Best Actor award for his performance in 12th Fail. Rani Mukerji was honoured with Best Actress for her role in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.
Among films, 12th Fail was awarded Best Feature Film, and Kathal was named Best Hindi Feature Film. Regional cinema was equally recognised, with The Ray of Hope winning Best Kannada Film, Bhagavanth Kesari taking Best Telugu Film, Vaash earning Best Gujarati Film, and Parking being declared Best Tamil Feature Film.

“This win is not my own. The National Award belongs to all those who stood by me & to Jamshedpur, my hometown that shaped me and continues to be my anchor,” she had said.
In the meantime, Shilpa Rao is also enjoying the love for her recent releases, Ul Jalool Ishq from Gustaakh Ishq and Ghafoor from The B**ds of Bollywood*.
