The eagerly anticipated sequel to the 2002 film 28 Days Later, which was released 23 years ago, titled 28 Years Later, is officially making its way to OTT platforms. The franchise's fans are ecstatic about its OTT release.

28 Years Later is now officially available to rent on Prime Video. The one-hour-and-55-minute film can also be rented or bought on other streaming services, such as Apple TV.

The film was also speculated to be available on Netflix from September 20, 2025. However, the streaming giant is yet to announce the 28 Years Later OTT release date.

The movie's availability on over-the-top (OTT) platforms has rekindled interest in 28 Days Later, the franchise's debut film.

In the most recent instalment of the series, Alex Garland returns as writer and Danny Boyle returns as director. The film picks up where 28 Days Later left off, 28 years after the apocalyptic virus outbreak.

Alfie Williams, Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O'Connell, and Chi Lewis-Parry all play important parts in 28 Years Later.

The film follows a small group of survivors who live a secluded life on Holy Island, off the coast of Northumberland, during the 'rage' virus outbreak that serves as the story's backdrop. Only a causeway, which is naturally protected by being submerged during high tide, connects the island to the mainland. Through the eyes of a family, the narrative depicts the struggle for survival in such a post-apocalyptic scenario.

According to Moneycontrol, an excerpt from 28 Years Later review reads, “he film reminds us of why the original worked so well. At its weakest, it feels like a spin-off that’s trying too hard to be something else. It’s not the triumphant return one hoped for, but it's not without merit either. Maybe the Rage virus isn’t the only thing that’s evolved—the franchise has too, just not always in the right direction. It’s worth a watch for the atmosphere and acting, but don’t expect the genre-defining brilliance of the original.”
