Directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Laapataa Ladies, was released in 2024 and was an instant hit. The critically acclaimed film has completed one year since its release and the makers have paid tribute to the success.
The makers of the film took to Instagram and shared a special post celebrating the milestone success of their masterpiece. They shared a trailer of the film with the caption, “A runaway bride, a mix-up, and a path to self-discovery, Laapataa Ladies reminded us that sometimes, losing yourself is just the beginning of finding who you truly are. Celebrating #1YearOfLaapataaLadies.”
However, the official Instagram handle of Aamir Khan Productions also celebrated the special day with a series of collage photos from the storyboards and the scenes from the film.
The photos were accompanied by the caption that reads, “A brief separation feels like an eternity without the one by your side and even a year feels like yesterday with them. Time goes by in a blink when you’re lost, found, laughing and learning along the way! Thank you for accepting and embracing the extraordinary lives of our equally extraordinary characters.”
Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies follows a hilarious yet heartfelt tale of mistaken identity when two brides, Phool Kumari, played by Nitanshi Goel and Jaya, essayed by Pratibha Ranta, get separated during a train journey. Alongside Deepak aka Sparsh Shrivastav, the brides navigate self-discovery, challenge traditions, and seek freedom.
The film was screened at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival and the actors have delivered a powerful performance. The film received international recognition after becoming India's official entry for the 2025 Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category, and it later made the top 15 shortlist.
