Kolkata Dakshin (Kolkata South) is a historic Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal, established in 1951. Primarily urban in nature, it comprises seven assembly segments: Kasba, Behala East, Behala West, Kolkata Port, Bhowanipur, Rashbehari, and Ballygunge.
The Election Commission of India has officially announced the date for the Kolkata Dakshin Lok Sabha Constituency Election in West Bengal. This constituency is one of the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. The voting for Kolkata Dakshin will take place on 1 June as part of Phase 7 of the elections. The Election Commission confirmed this final date for voting and the subsequent result announcement on 16th March.
The electoral history of Kolkata Dakshin reflects the dynamic political landscape of the region. In 1967, CPM candidate Jyotirmoy Ghosh emerged victorious, defeating Congress candidate BB Ghosh. However, in 1971, the tables turned when Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi of the Congress defeated the CPM's Jyotirmoy Ghosh.
In 1977, the Bharatiya Lok Dal's (BLD) Dilip Chakravarty secured victory in the election. The 1980 election was won by CPM’s Satya Sadhan Chakravarty.
In 1991, a significant shift occurred when Mamata Banerjee defeated CPM’s senior leader, Biplab Das Gupta. Subsequently, in 1996 and 1998, Mamata Banerjee was elected as the MP from here, first under the Congress banner and later under the West Bengal Trinamool Congress (WBTC) banner. Her winning streak continued in 1999, when the Trinamool Congress formally came into existence.
Mamata Banerjee retained the seat in 2004, and in 2009, Subrata Bakshi of the Trinamool won from here. In 2011, Mamata Banerjee was once again elected as the MP from here. After assuming the role of Chief Minister of West Bengal, she vacated this seat.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool Congress candidate, Mala Roy, emerged victorious from this seat, securing 5,73,119 votes. The BJP's Chandra Kumar Bose secured 4,17,927 votes. Similarly, in 2014, Trinamool Congress's Subrata Bakshi was elected as the MP from here, although the BJP's Tathagata Roy presented formidable competition.
Key candidates in the fray are:
| Candidate | Party |
| Sushri Debashree Chaudhary | BJP |
| Mala Roy | TMC |
