Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said filing his nomination from Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency on May 3 was indeed an emotional moment for him as the UP seat was represented by his mother Sonia Gandhi for two decades.
"Filing nomination from Rae Bareli was an emotional moment for me!" he posted on X, formerly Twitter.

"My mother has handed over the family's work to me with great trust and has given me the opportunity to serve the people of Rae Bareli," he wrote.
The Congress MP added that both Rae Bareli and Amethi are his family. The party has fielded Kishori Lal Sharma from Amethi, the constituency which Rahul lost to BJP's Smriti Irani in 2019.
"I am happy that Kishori Lal ji, who has been serving the constituency for 40 years, will represent the party from Amethi," Rahul said.
He also sought blessings from the people in the ongoing war of justice against injustice. "In the ongoing war of justice against injustice, I seek the love and blessings of my loved ones. I am confident that you all are standing with me in this fight to save the Constitution and democracy," he wrote sharing the video post.
The Congress leader declared assets of over Rs 20 crore in his papers. Rahul's annual income in the last financial year (2022-23) was Rs. 1,02,78,680, as per the nomination papers. He was accompanied by his mother, sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and party president Mallikarjun Kharge as he filed his papers around 2pm on the last day for filing nominations for the May 20 phase of polling. Gandhi's brother-in-law Robert too was present.
