Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday repeated his earlier prediction that BJP will not cross more than 150 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a rally in Madhya Pradesh, Rahul claimed that the ongoing Lok Sabha polls were aimed at saving the Constitution which the BJP and RSS want to change.
Scoffing at PM Modi's "400 paar" target for NDA, Rahul said the BJP won't even cross 150 seats.
"BJP leaders have clearly said that they will change the book (Constitution). They have given the slogan of 'abki baar, 400 paar'. Leave aside 400, they won't even get 150 seats," he claimed.
In 2019, BJP won 303 seats in the lower house while Congress won 52 - its second lowest tally in the general election.
"These Lok Sabha elections are for saving the Constitution which the BJP and RSS want to scrap, change and throw away," he further claimed.
He added that the Congress and the opposition INDIA alliance were protecting the Constitution.
"It is due to it (Constitution) that the tribals, Dalits and OBCs are getting benefits. The tribals have the right over water, land and jungles due to the Constitution," he said.
Opposition parties, including Congress, have been warning people that BJP will alter the Constitution if it comes to power for a third consecutive term. The party has vehemently denied this charge and accused Congress of creating a fear psychosis.
Earlier too, Rahul said that BJP will win about 150 seats in the Lok Sabha polls.
During a joint press conference along with INDIA bloc ally and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad on Aprul 17, Rahul said that he is getting reports from various states that opposition's prospects are improving.
"I do not do prediction of seats. 15-20 days ago I was thinking BJP would win around 180 seats but now I think they will get 150 seats. We are getting reports from every state that we are improving. We have a very strong alliance in Uttar Pradesh and we will perform very well," he had said.
