Ministry of external affairs on Thursday said that suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna, who is facing sexual abuse allegations, went to Germany on a diplomatic passport.
During a weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that no political clearance was sought for Revanna, who had fled the country as sexual abuse allegations surfaced against him.
"No political clearance was either sought from or issued by MEA in respect of the travel of the said MP to Germany. Obviously, no visa note was issued either," Jaiswal said.
He said that no visa is required for diplomatic passport holders to travel to Germany.
"The ministry has also not issued any visa note for any other country for the said MP...Yes, he travelled on a diplomatic passport," the spokesperson said.
During the briefing, Revanna said that revocation of diplomatic passport can only happen as per the provisions of the Passport Act. "The provisions state that passport can be revoked only after a court order ... we have no such court direction yet," he said.
Earlier today, Karnataka home minister Dr G Parameshwara said that a lookout circular has been issued to arrest Hassan JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna.
Prajwal is the grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda and son of MLA and former Minister H D Revanna.
Some explicit video clips allegedly involving the 33-year-old MP had started doing the rounds in Hassan in recent days.
He was the NDA candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, where polling was held on April 26.
The MP left the country as soon as the election to his constituency ended.
A case has also been registered against Prajwal and his father HD Revanna on a complaint lodged by their former cook and relative for allegedly sexually harassing her.
She also alleged that Prajwal made video calls to her daughter and spoke in an objectionable manner, which forced her to block him.
