AAP vs BJP Delhi 2024

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on course to win in the West Delhi constituency where the BJP candidate Kamaljeet Sehrawat is going up against the Aam Aadmi Party's Mahabal Mishra.

As of 1730 IST, Sehrawat is leading by 162,655 votes in West Delhi, according to latest data available on the Election Commision of India.

Voting took place on May 25 in the South Delhi constituency during the sixth phase of the seven-phase general election.

Kamaljeet Sehrawat, former Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corp has replaced Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, who won the seat in 2019, for the BJP.

The BJP faces a challenge from the local AAP government, which has been electorally dominant in assembly elections. The BJP currently does not have any Member of the Legislative Assemblys (MLAs) in this constituency.

Sehrawat comes from the Jat community and is expected to draw Jat voters who form a sizable chunk of the electorate often playing the role of kingmakers

The AAP has nominated Mahabal Mishra, an ex-Congress leader who was removed from the party in 2020 and joined the AAP in 2022. Mishra is a former MP and a well-known Purvanchali face, appealing to the large Purvanchali voter base originally from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Mishra had won the seat in 2009 while represeting the Indian National Congress.
