Liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, and other places serving alcohol in Delhi will remain closed from February 3 to 5 and again on February 8 due to the Assembly elections on Wednesday.
The Delhi Excise Commissioner has issued an official notification regarding this, reported the Times of India.
The national capital will vote on February 5, and results will be announced on February 8. The polls will see a high-octane contest between the BJP, AAP, and Congress.
As per the Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, the days of elections and counting are classified as "dry days" when no alcohol sales or services are allowed.
The restriction will be in place for 48 hours before voting begins and on the counting day.
As per the notification, the ban will start at 6 pm on February 3 and end at 6 pm on February 5, the election day. After that, there will be a ban of one more day on the day of counting on February 8. The directive applies to all liquor license holders, including bars, hotels, clubs, and restaurants.
However, the restriction does not apply to areas in Delhi NCR, including parts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, as there is no official notification for those regions.
