The Himachal Pradesh education department has announced that all schools in Una district will remain closed from June 1 to June 30 due to the intense summer heat. This decision was confirmed by officials on Tuesday, citing the high temperatures affecting the area.
According to the revised schedule, the summer vacation for schools in Una will be split into two parts. Schools will be closed for the entire month of June and will reopen on July 1. Classes will then continue until August 2, after which there will be a short break from August 3 to August 12.
Somlal Dhiman, Deputy Director of Primary Education, explained that earlier, the summer holidays were planned from June 1 to June 8, and then again from July 12 to August 12. However, due to the rising temperatures, the education department has revised the schedule to provide better relief to students.
“During June, temperatures in Una often rise to 44 to 45 degrees Celsius. Teachers’ unions have been asking the government to reschedule holidays or change school timings because of the heat. This year, the education department has taken a proactive step to offer full relief to students during summer,” Dhiman said.
In addition to Himachal Pradesh, the Punjab government has also announced summer holidays for all schools in the state from June 2 to June 30, 2025. This decision is in response to a severe heatwave affecting many parts of northern India. All government, aided, recognised, and private schools in Punjab will remain closed during this period.
