Amid the severe cold wave sweeping across India, several states have announced the closure of schools or extended their winter vacations. The biting cold, coupled with dense fog, has led to disruptions in daily life, prompting authorities in Delhi NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and other states to take precautionary measures.
Schools Closed in Delhi NCRIn Delhi, where temperatures have plummeted to 7 degree celsius, the government has declared winter vacations for all government schools from 1 January to 15 January 2025. Classes will resume on 16 January 2025. Meanwhile in Noida, schools for students up to Class 8 have been closed indefinitely, while in Ghaziabad, schools are shut until 11 January.
Uttar Pradesh and HaryanaLucknow has announced the closure of schools until 11 January 2025. However, online classes will continue for students in Classes 9 to 12. In Haryana, winter vacations have been extended until 15 January 2025, with schools scheduled to reopen on 16 January.
Bihar and Jharkhand Take Precautionary MeasuresIn Bihar, government and private schools have declared holidays until 11 January 2025. Additionally, in Araria district, classes up to Class 8 are suspended until 12 January. However, Classes 9 to 12 will continue from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and pre-board and board exams will proceed as planned. Jharkhand has announced a holiday for all schools from 7 to 11 January 2025, owing to the extreme weather.
Chandigarh Extends Winter BreakIn Chandigarh, the winter break for schools has been extended until 11 January 2025. Both government and private schools will reopen on 13 January.
