Torrential monsoon rains have severely impacted normal life across various parts of India, leading to flooding, landslides, and widespread disruption. As a result, schools and colleges in several states have been ordered to close temporarily. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts in many regions and advised residents to remain vigilant over the next 48 hours.
Waterlogging and Traffic Disruption in the National Capital Region
In Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram, continuous heavy rainfall has led to severe waterlogging and traffic jams. Authorities in Noida have announced the closure of all schools for Classes 1 to 8 as a precautionary measure. The IMD has predicted further intensification of rain in the coming days.
Heavy Rain and Landslide Threat in Himalayan States
In Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, relentless downpours have increased the risk of landslides and rising river levels. Due to the red alert in districts like Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, and Chamoli, schools and colleges remain closed. In Himachal Pradesh, districts such as Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur, and Solan are on high alert due to ongoing landslides and heavy rainfall.
Life Disrupted in Mumbai and Other Parts of Maharashtra
Heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Pune has disrupted daily life. Local train services in Mumbai have been affected, and streets are inundated. In Nagpur, rising water levels have led to a flood-like situation, prompting authorities to shut down all educational institutions.
Flood Alerts in Southern India
In Kerala, districts like Malappuram, Kannur, and Kasaragod are facing flood-like conditions. In Karnataka, a red alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru, resulting in the closure of schools and colleges.
Warnings in Eastern and Central India
In Chhattisgarh, 19 districts are under threat of flooding due to heavy rainfall. Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh, areas including Saharanpur, Shamli, and Baraut are on alert due to expected heavy downpours.
Citizens are advised to follow local advisories, stay indoors wherever possible, and avoid traveling through waterlogged or landslide-prone areas. The situation is being closely monitored by state and central authorities.
