NEW DELHI: In a significant move, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has informed the Supreme Court their decision to cancel grace marks awarded to 1,563 students to compensate for perceived time loss during the exam. These candidates will be given the option to retake the exam.
The Court also addressed separate petitions alleging irregularities in the NEET UG exam. It has directed that all petitions concerning paper leaks and unfair means be heard together on a designated date, July 8, 2024.
The Supreme Court, while reading its order today, informed that the NTA has decided to cancel the scorecards of 1,563 NEET UG candidates who were awarded grace marks.
These students will be given two options: They can either retake the exam, or their marks will be calculated after deducting the grace marks awarded earlier.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will be notifying these students today itself. The retest is likely to be scheduled for June 23, 2024, with results expected to be released before counselling sessions begin on July 1. The Supreme Court clarified that only those candidates who experienced delays at their exam centres will be eligible to retake the test.
Following challenges to the awarding of grace marks in the NEET UG 2024 exam, the National Testing Agency (NTA) constituted a committee to re-examine the issue. Today, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that the committee has proposed cancelling the grace marks awarded to 1,563 students.
Options for NEET UG Candidates Who Received Grace Marks
The Supreme Court's ruling offers two options for the 1,563 NEET UG candidates who had received grace marks:
1. Retest: Candidates can choose to retake the exam scheduled for June 23, 2024 (tentative).
2. Revised Score: If a candidate opts out of the retest, their score will be recalculated based on their marks without the grace marks awarded earlier.
