Meet Tamil Nadu Deputy Collector Kathir Selvi: A farmer's daughter who topped the state's toughest TNPSC exam

In an inspiring tale of never giving up, a 27-year-old woman from a small farming village has become the top scorer in Tamil Nadu's prestigious TNPSC Group 1 exam. Kathir Selvi, from Vazhaikkollai village in Cuddalore district, proved that hard work and patience can make any dream come true.

The TNPSC Group 1 exam is one of the hardest tests in the state. It selects people for top government jobs like Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), and Assistant Commissioner. This year, over 1.5 lakh people applied, but only 190 made it to the final list. Kathir Selvi didn't just pass, she came first in the entire state.

She was recently appointed as a Deputy Collector by the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. This official appointment marks the beginning of her service to the people of the state.

Kathir Selvi's parents are farmers. After finishing college in 2019, she dreamed of getting a government job to serve the people. She faced failure early on when she didn't clear another state exam. But instead of quitting, she studied even harder.

"This victory didn't come easy," she said in an interview. "It came after many years of continuous studying and overcoming failure."

Her parents supported her dream completely. They helped pay for her studies and gave her the strength to keep going.

When the results were announced earlier this year in April, her whole village celebrated with pride. People garlanded her and celebrated her success. She is not just a role model for her village but for every young person who has a big dream.
