Scoring an impressive 212 out of 300 and securing a 99.90 percentile in the JEE Main January 2025 attempt, Pragyan Srivastav from Lucknow, shares his journey and valuable tips for students gearing up for the JEE Main April 2025 examination.
Pragyan's JEE Main 2025 exam preparation journey started in Class 11 with a focus on mastering the fundamentals. "My initial strategy was to build a solid conceptual foundation across all subjects before progressing to advanced problem-solving," he explains. This approach helped him develop a clear understanding of concepts, crucial for tackling complex questions later.
Balancing school studies, board exams, and JEE Main preparation can be challenging. Pragyan prioritized his JEE Main preparation while covering the school syllabus for board exams. "Since JEE Main covers most of the board curriculum, I focused on conceptual clarity and efficient revision," he says. A well-structured schedule and disciplined approach were key to managing both effectively.
Pragyan dedicated around six hours daily to self-study, dividing his time equally among Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. "I allocated approximately two hours per subject to ensure balanced preparation," he shares. This consistent effort helped him stay on track and cover all necessary topics.
For his JEE entrance exam preparation, Pragyan relied on the comprehensive study materials and practiced extensively using previous years' question papers. "For Mathematics, I referred to books like Black Book and Sameer Bansal to enhance my problem-solving skills," he adds. A rigorous revision plan, including regular mock tests and in-depth analysis of mistakes, was crucial in refining his approach and improving accuracy.
While Mathematics was Pragyan's strongest subject, Chemistry posed a challenge initially. "To overcome this, I revised my class notes thoroughly, practiced a variety of problems, and took multiple tests to strengthen my conceptual understanding," he explains. Consistent practice and targeted revision helped him improve his weaker areas.
Effective time management during the exam is essential. Pragyan adopted a flexible approach, starting with easier questions to secure quick marks before tackling more challenging ones. "This dynamic strategy helped me manage time effectively and maximize my score," he notes.
Mock tests and previous years' papers played a significant role in Pragyan's preparation. "I attempted mock tests about twice a week during my preparation and almost daily as the exam approached," he shares. These tests helped him familiarize himself with the exam pattern, improve speed and accuracy, and refine his test-taking strategy.
Pragyan's elder brother, who successfully cleared JEE Advanced, has been his biggest inspiration and mentor. "His guidance and encouragement helped me stay motivated throughout my journey," he says. Additionally, hobbies like playing chess and table tennis helped him unwind and stay mentally refreshed.
With a focus on JEE Advanced, Pragyan plans to fine-tune his test-taking strategy for the JEE Main April 2025 attempt by practicing more mock tests and minimizing errors. "I am now focusing on solving advanced-level problems and strengthening my conceptual understanding," he explains.
Pragyan's advice to JEE aspirants is to stay consistent, prioritize concept clarity, and practice extensively. "Balance theory with problem-solving, analyze mistakes carefully, and avoid procrastination. Most importantly, stay persistent and trust the process—hard work and dedication will always lead to success," he concludes.
