Indian Student's Honest Post Reveals the Real Cost of Studying Abroad

An Indian student living in Germany is inspiring many online by sharing the true story behind his "dream life" abroad. His message is simple: achieving your dreams often comes with hidden struggles and sacrifices.

Prathamesh Patil posted a powerful video and story on Instagram. He wanted to show the reality that most people don't see on social media.

He wrote about the emotional rollercoaster of being far from home. He explained that he finally broke down in tears when his mother told him, "In the end, hard work always pays off, my child." After months of staying strong, these words of support from his parents touched his heart deeply.

His video shows his journey from the beginning—quitting his job in India and arriving in Germany with four suitcases and big dreams. The reality he faced was very different from the dream. He lived in a crowded apartment where nine people shared one bathroom.

To pay his bills, Patil took on difficult part-time jobs. He cleaned restaurant kitchens and toilets for eight euros an hour. He delivered groceries in freezing cold weather and worked in warehouses and supermarkets, sometimes not even receiving his full pay on time.

His challenges didn't stop there. He was scammed by a landlord, lost a lot of money, and was even briefly homeless. It took him two years to finally get his German residence permit.

Despite sending out over 300 applications for internships and facing constant rejection, he never gave up. His hard work finally paid off when he received one internship offer. The moment he shared this success with his parents was the moment his tears of relief flowed.

Patil says he is not just telling his own story, but the story of every international student who leaves their comfort zone to build a new life from nothing.

"People often see the good moments on social media and think we're living the best life," he wrote. "But nothing comes free; every dream has a price."

He ended his post by thanking the friends who supported him and called this achievement "just the beginning." What might seem like a small step to some was an unimaginable victory for his 18-year-old self.
