Schools in Telangana, including Hyderabad and other districts, as well as Jammu and Kashmir, will observe a holiday on January 28, 2025, for Shab-e-Meraj, an important day in the Islamic calendar. However, the holiday is optional, and individual institutions will decide whether to remain closed.
The Telangana government has officially designated January 28 as an optional holiday, allowing schools to decide independently. While some minority educational institutions in the state will remain closed, others may continue to function.
Shab-e-Meraj holds deep significance for Muslims around the world. It commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s miraculous journey from Makkah to Jerusalem and his ascension to heaven. This event is remembered as a moment of divine guidance when the Prophet interacted with other prophets and received instructions from Allah.
School Holiday in Jammu and Kashmir
In Jammu and Kashmir, schools will also observe a holiday for Shab-e-Meraj. The government issued an order to close schools on January 28, 2025 (Tuesday), following a request from the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board.
The holiday was initially scheduled for January 27, 2025 (Monday), as per a previous government order. However, a revised order stated that the observance will now take place on January 28, 2025, instead. Students and parents in Jammu and Kashmir are advised to check with their respective schools regarding the holiday schedule.
Schools Closed Till 5 February in Varanasi
Additionally, Varanasi authorities have announced that all schools in the district will remain closed from 27 January to 5 February 2025 due to the influx of devotees travelling to the city during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. The decision was taken to manage the challenges posed by the massive crowds and traffic congestion, ensuring the safety of students and the smooth functioning of the city.
