The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Class 10 Science board examination today, February 25, 2026, concluding at 1:30 PM. This year's paper, attempted by over 25 lakh students nationwide, introduced a structural overhaul, dividing the paper into three distinct sections for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology for the first time.
In a shift aimed at promoting holistic learning, the CBSE has moved away from a mixed-question format for the 2026 cohort. The new pattern mandates a clear segregation of the three science disciplines within the 80-mark theory paper. This change is designed to ensure that students receive equal focus on all core subjects, potentially simplifying preparation by allowing them to tackle each subject sequentially.
The examination, which commenced at 10:30 AM, comprised a total of 39 compulsory questions. Unlike previous years where questions from different subjects were interspersed, students today received a booklet clearly demarcated into three standalone sections:
Initial Student and Teacher Reactions
Early feedback from students exiting exam centres suggests that the new format was well-received. Many students found the segregation helpful, as it allowed them to mentally switch gears between disciplines without confusion.
The overall difficulty level of the paper was reported as moderate. While the Biology section was largely considered straightforward and fact-based, the Physics section required strong conceptual clarity. The Chemistry portion balanced numerical problems with theoretical questions.
One student exiting an exam centre in Noida said that he found the science question paper comparatively easier than the class 10 Maths Board Examination 2026.
Another student, Mohit, described the paper as easy. He said he found the questions straightforward and noted that the instructions regarding the new changes were clearly highlighted.
Early reactions indicate that students were largely happy with the difficulty level of the Science board exam. According to one student, Biology took about 20 minutes, while Physics required more time, though he still managed to complete the paper before the designated time.
The introduction of this pattern in 2026 sets a new precedent for CBSE. By clearly dividing the paper, the board aims to reduce cognitive load during the exam and encourage subject-specific mastery.
