Thirty three percent of students at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur were not able to secure placements last year, according to right to information (RTI) data.
The Career Development Centre (CDC) of IIT Kharagpur, in a RTI reply to Dheeraj Singh, founder of Global IIT Alumni Support Group, said 2,490 students registered for placement in 2022-2023 placement season. However, only 1,675 received placements while 574 received pre-placement offers (PPOs).
Similarly, in 2021-22 placement season, IIT Kharag managed to place 1,615 students out of 2,256 who registered. To be sure, 404 got PPOs.
The median salary stood at Rs 18 lakh per annum (LPA) in 2022-23, and Rs 16 LPA in 2021-22.

Moneycontrol earlier reported that IIT Jammu and IIT Palakkad are yet to place 50 percent and 57 percent of their students, respectively, in the ongoing placement season.
According to RTI data, out of the 251 students of IIT Jammu who registered for placements, only 126 were able to receive job offers in the ongoing placement round. Based on the data seen by Moneycontrol, in the 2023 placement season, only 33 students were not placed in IIT Jammu compared to 125 in the current placement season.
Similarly at IIT Palakkad, 118 students, out of 273 who registered, received jobs or were placed through campus placements (including via pre-placement offers) in 2024 till date.
