The township is being developed in the Kakua and Bhandai areas of Agra district and is named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday launched the Atal Puram Township, a mega housing project on the outskirts of Agra. Developed by the Agra Development Authority (ADA), this marks ADA's return to the housing sector after a gap of 36 years, aiming to provide residential facilities to at least 10,000 families.

The township is being developed in the Kakua and Bhandai areas of Agra district and is named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who spent his childhood in Bateshwar, a village in the rural belt of the same district. ADA vice-chairman M Arunmozhi described Atal Puram as the largest housing initiative ever undertaken by the authority.

Strategically located near the junction of Inner Ring Road, Southern Bypass, and Gwalior Road, the project will span 340 acres and be developed in three phases. The township has been demarcated into 11 sectors and carries an estimated cost of Rs 1,515.47 crore. The masterplan includes 1,430 residential plots, 18 group housing plots, and 96 non-residential plots, in addition to designated areas for community centres, healthcare, and educational facilities.

During his visit to Agra, CM Yogi Adityanath also chaired a review meeting with ministers and elected representatives from the Agra division. He directed officials to conduct surveys of damaged roads and prepare for a pothole-free road campaign after the monsoon. Additionally, he called for a detailed action plan for improving the drainage infrastructure, ensuring better civic amenities for the city’s residents.

The review meeting also addressed concerns related to public works, urban development, tourism, and religious tourism. UP Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh mentioned that the CM urged local representatives to actively contribute suggestions and coordinate with departments to shape a comprehensive action plan.

State Basic Education Minister and Aligarh MLA Sandeep Singh lauded the CM’s efforts, highlighting that projects are now seeing rapid implementation due to a transparent and corruption-free system.
