A police inspector in Jharkhand has been stripped of his command after he was found creating social media reel while on duty, featuring both him and his wife dancing inside the police station on Republic Day.

Inspector Sonu Kumar Choudhary, the Station House Officer of Hussainabad police station in Palamu district, was removed from his post and attached to the district police line on Wednesday.

The disciplinary action was triggered by the viral video, shot on January 26, which showed Choudhary in uniform performing in his wife's dance performance on the police station premises. Police sources confirmed he was not merely present but was the creator of the content, reportedly even placing his official cap on her head during the filming.

Superintendent of Police Reeshma Rameshan, who issued the removal order, stated the inspector was punished for "indiscipline and misconduct." She emphasised that the act of making such reels while in uniform and on official duty was unacceptable. Inspector Chandan Kumar has been appointed as his replacement.

She clarified that the formal disciplinary process was initiated by Deputy Inspector General Kishore Kaushal after the reel circulated widely online.

The incident constitutes a direct violation of standing orders from the Jharkhand Director General of Police’s office, which expressly forbid personnel from using uniforms, weapons or government resources for personal social media content.

Sources indicated that an officer of Choudhary's seniority engaging in such on-duty behaviour represented a severe lapse. It was further alleged that he uploaded the reels to social media platforms himself.

The case follows a similar controversy last year in Chandigarh, where a constable was suspended after his wife filmed a dance reel on a public road.
