Video: Bengaluru woman groped, dragged on road by Instagram ‘friend’ after rejecting proposal

The video shows the accused repeatedly hitting the woman on her head and back and dragging her along the road.

Bengaluru police arrested a man on Wednesday for allegedly harassing a woman in broad daylight near her Paying Guest (PG) accommodation in Ullal.

According to the police, the accused had become acquainted with the woman through Instagram and had been repeatedly pressuring her to enter into a relationship with him. An FIR has been registered in the case, and further legal proceedings are underway.

In her complaint, the woman stated that she has been staying at the Shri Sai Baba Ladies PG in Ullal for the past six months.

She previously worked as a telecaller at Dhatri Developers in Nagarabhavi and had uploaded promotional material for the company on her Instagram account on September 30, 2024.

It was through Instagram that she came into contact with Naveen Kumar, a resident of Bilya Maranahalli in Yelahanka. What began as an online interaction soon developed into regular in-person meetings in Nagarabhavi.

As per the complaint, the accused gradually started pressuring the woman to enter into a relationship with him. Despite the woman’s rejection, he continued to harass her, including coming near her PG premises and following her everywhere.

On December 22, 2025, at around 3.20 pm, when the complainant stepped out of the PG, the accused allegedly assaulted her by hitting her on the head, back and neck. Moreover, he reportedly attempted to tear her clothes, the complaint stated.

Following the incident, the woman immediately alerted the police. However, by the time police arrived at the spot, the accused had fled.

The police began a manhunt for the accused, ultimately leading to his arrest.
