Muskan Rastogi, who is currently lodged in jail along with her lover for the alleged murder of her husband, has been found to be pregnant during a routine health check-up at the jail, officials confirmed on Monday.

According to Senior Jail Superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma, the health check-up and pregnancy test are done regularly for every female inmate coming to the jail and Muskan's test was also a part of this process. The official noted that while he has not yet received an official medical report, he was verbally informed of the pregnancy by the medical staff.

Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer Dr Ashok Kataria confirmed that a preliminary test had indicated Muskan is pregnant. He stated that the next step will be an ultrasound, which will determine the duration and condition of the pregnancy.

Muskan, along with her partner Sahil, is accused of the murder of her husband, Saurabh Rajput, a former Merchant Navy officer. The incident took place on the night of March 4 in Indiranagar, Meerut. The duo allegedly drugged Saurabh and then killed him by stabbing.

The investigation found that Muskan and Sahil dismembered Saurabh’s body, severing the head and hands, and attempted to conceal the remains in a blue drum filled with cement.

The police officials stated that Muskan had allegedly been planning the murder since November 2023. Both suspects are now in judicial custody.

While in jail, Muskan has been assigned to sewing duties, and Sahil is involved in agricultural work.

The police also found that both Muskan and Sahil are long-time drug abusers. "Both Sahil and Muskan have been taking drugs for a long time. Due to this, they are having problems of restlessness and are not even able to sleep at night," Viresh Sharma said.

Both have been enrolled in a rehabilitation program, with support from a drug de-addiction centre.
