An activist affiliated with the Bajrang Dal has been formally charged by police in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district after a video in which he is seen hurling abuses at officers and threatening to burn down a police station circulated widely on social media.
The incident occurred on Sunday at the Kemri police station. According to authorities, the man, identified as Suraj Patel, had arrived demanding to meet one Mohd Suhel, a detained individual held in connection with an undisclosed case. Police officials, as cited by TOI, said that when officers refused the meeting, citing a lack of due procedure and permission, Patel became enraged.

The video evidence captures a heated confrontation. Patel is heard using expletive-laden language against inspectors and sub-inspectors, accusing them of “nautanki” (drama) for denying him access. He openly dares the policemen to arrest him while invoking his Bajrang Dal connections.
The confrontation escalates as he issues a direct threat: “Jis daroga ya inspector me himmat Hai to mujhe maar kar dikhao, poora thana ko aag laga doonga” (If any sub-inspector or inspector dares to beat me; try, I will set the entire police station on fire).
The clip rapidly gained traction online, prompting swift police action. A senior officer familiar with the case reportedly described Patel’s behaviour as “uncontrolled and indecent.”

Facing the backlash, Patel returned to the Kemri police station later the same day. He submitted a written apology and also recorded a video statement expressing regret, acknowledging his behaviour was wrong and promising it would not be repeated. The senior officer confirmed Patel had been “warned not to repeat such behaviour.”
However, the legal process proceeded despite his contrition. Rampur Superintendent of Police Vidhya Sagar Mishra confirmed that “an FIR under relevant BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) sections has been lodged at the police station.” Additionally, the Additional SP of Rampur has been directed to investigate the matter and submit a report.
