The girl climbed the window and slipped through its grille. Fire officer Chavan, who resides in the same building and rescued the child, said the girl’s head was wedged between the window bars while the rest of her body was dangerously dangling outside. “The girl was screaming due to pain," he told The Times of India.
A resident spotted the child hanging and shouted from the ground floor, “Bacchi gir rahi hai (the girl is falling)," drawing attention to the emergency. Chavan, who was on his weekly off and sipping tea at the time, heard the screams and immediately sprang into action, the report added.
“Owing to my training in firefighting, I knew exactly what to do," he told TOI. “I ran to the building, saw the girl’s mother who had just returned, took the keys from her, and rushed upstairs. I unlocked the flat and managed to pull the girl out of the grille."
