A 24-year-old woman was shot dead allegedly by her partner inside her rented home in Noida, with police suspecting that he killed her after she refused to marry him.
According to police, multiple teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused, identified as Krishna (26), The Indian Express reported.
Noida Phase 2 SHO Vidhiyanchal Tiwari said the victim, Sonu (25), hailed from Amroha district in Uttar Pradesh. She worked as a domestic help and lived in the rented accommodation with her two sisters and brother. “The accused wanted to marry her, but she was unwilling, which led to frequent disputes,” the SHO was quoted by the newspaper as saying.
Tiwari added that a distress call from one of Sonu’s sisters was received around 7.30 pm on Friday, reporting that she had been shot. “When we reached the spot, we found her with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead,” he said.
As per the report, police said Sonu and Krishna, who hailed from Bihar, earlier worked together at a factory and had been in a relationship since then. Krishna was allegedly pressuring her to marry him, and her refusal is suspected to have led to the shooting, officers said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Shakti Mohan Avasthy was quoted as saying: “Preliminary inquiry suggested that Krishna visited the woman’s rented room earlier in the day, where an argument ensued, leading to the shooting. The accused fled the scene soon after the incident.”
“An FIR has been registered, and multiple police teams have been formed to arrest the accused,” he added.
A forensic team inspected the crime scene, and the body was sent for postmortem after the necessary legal formalities were completed.
