A dangerous manhunt has been launched by a Nagpur-based gang after the death of their leader’s wife, who was allegedly in a relationship with a fellow member. The incident has triggered a violent rift within the notorious Ippa gang, with at least 40 members now scouring the city for Arshad Topi, the accused, TOI reported.
According to NDTV, Topi had been romantically involved with the wife of the gang’s leader. The affair took a fatal turn on Thursday when the pair met with a road accident while riding a two-wheeler near Suradevi temple. A JCB vehicle reportedly hit them, leaving Topi with minor injuries but fatally wounding the woman.
As per NDTV, the woman was initially denied treatment at two hospitals before Topi arranged for her admission by paying an ambulance driver to Nagpur’s Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). CCTV footage showed him accompanying her, but she succumbed to her injuries the following day.
Her death has reportedly sent shockwaves through Nagpur’s underworld, with gang members branding Topi a “traitor” and accusing him of orchestrating her killing. Though police investigations so far suggest the death was accidental, the gang remains unconvinced.
Fearing for his life, Topi sought protection from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Pardi on Friday. He was later sent to Koradi police station, where his statement was recorded. “Considering the seriousness of the situation, the DCP sent him to the Koradi police station,” a police official was quoted by NDTV as saying.
With the gang mobilising to hunt him down, Topi has now gone into hiding. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as tensions escalate in the city’s criminal underworld.
