In a major twist in the Meghalaya honeymoon case, the alleged lover of Sonam Raghuwanshi has been arrested by the police for plotting the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuwanshi.
According to the latest media reports, it was Raj Kushwaha who had hatched the plot to kill Raja Raghuwanshi. Married to Sonam last month, Raja Raghuwanshi’s body was found on June 2. The police say that Sonam and Raj were in a relationship.
As per News18 Hindi, after allegedly murdering Raja Raghuwanshi, Kushwaha took Sonam from Meghalaya and was on the run. Kushwaha is also from Madhya Pradesh. The other three men who were allegedly hired to kill Raja Raghuvanshi have been identified as Vicky Thakur, Anand, and Akash.
According to news agency IANS, the Meghalaya Police said that Sonam Raghuwanshi surrendered ‘under pressure’.
Meanwhile, speaking about the latest developments in the case, Vipul Raghuwanshi, brother of the deceased Raja Raghuvanshi, expressed shock and suspicion over Sonam Raghuwanshi’s possible involvement in the murder. Referring to her alleged connection with Raj Kushwaha, Vipul told news agency ANI that, “I had no idea about those 3–4 people until I heard their names. Now that Raj Kushwaha’s name has surfaced, it suggests that Sonam may have been involved in the murder. Raj Kushwaha was her employee, and they used to speak on the phone frequently.”
He added, “Everything seemed fine. Both Sonam and Raja appeared happy when their marriage was arranged. We never imagined Sonam would be capable of something like this. I believe the Meghalaya government is not lying about others being involved in the crime. I’ve never seen Raj Kushwaha in person, only heard his name.”
Vipul also shared details of their travel plans: “They were only supposed to go to Assam to offer prayers at the Maa Kamakhya Temple. Later, they informed us they were heading to Shillong. We don’t know who planned the Meghalaya trip. They hadn’t even booked return tickets.”
