A city-wide manhunt is underway for a three-member gang accused of abducting and gang-raping a young MBA student in a brutal late-night attack near Coimbatore International Airport.
According to a TOI report, the horrific sequence of events began around 11 pm on Sunday. The victim, a student from a private college near Peelamedu, was conversing with a male friend inside a car near the airport. A gang, which had arrived on a stolen two-wheeler, reportedly noticed the couple.
The assailants then assaulted the young man, seriously injuring him, before forcibly kidnapping the woman. They took her to a secluded location, where she was gang-raped. In a final act of cruelty, the perpetrators abandoned her without her clothes.
The injured boyfriend managed to raise the alarm, alerting the police who immediately launched a search operation. After hours of effort, the woman was located and rescued around 4 am in an isolated area behind a private college, approximately one kilometre from the airport. She was subsequently admitted to a private hospital near Sitra for treatment and care.
Her friend was also hospitalised and is receiving treatment for his injuries at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
A police officer familiar with the investigation provided critical details, as cited by TOI, stating, "The trio stole a two-wheeler near Kovilpalayam and travelled on Airport Road, where they found the girl and her boyfriend together in a car."
In a significant escalation of the investigation, authorities have formed seven special teams dedicated to apprehending the culprits. The police are continuing their investigation into the attack.
