A 29-year-old kabaddi player from Nagpur, Maharashtra, has allegedly died by suicide after her husband failed to secure the job he had promised her before their marriage, NDTV reported.
Kiran Suraj Dadhe, who was facing financial difficulties, married Swapnil Jaydev Lambghare in 2020. According to police, the 30-year-old had assured Kiran and her brother that he would arrange jobs for them to help the family overcome their financial struggles.
However, Kiran, a national-level kabaddi player, later realised she had been misled, the report added.
As Swapnil continued to delay the promised job and allegedly subjected her to mental harassment and demands for sexual favours, Kiran left their home and returned to her parents.
When the threats and verbal abuse allegedly escalated, her family insisted she file for divorce in a family court. As per the report, she saved abusive messages on her phone as evidence.
On December 4, Kiran attempted suicide by consuming poison. She was taken to a hospital but succumbed to her condition three days later. Police have registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abetment of suicide and are searching for Swapnil.
