Hyderabad police have registered three cases against several individuals, including three MLAs from the ruling Congress party, for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during polling for the Jubilee Hills Assembly bye-election.
According to a report by The News Miniute, two cases were filed at the Madhuranagar Police Station against sitting MLAs Beerla Ilaiah, Rama Chandra Naik, and Ramdas Maloth. Another case was lodged at the Borabanda Police Station against former MLAs Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar and Methuku Anand, both members of the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
In an official statement, Hyderabad Police said strict legal action is being taken against those found violating election code norms. The police reiterated that every citizen must respect the MCC to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections in keeping with democratic values. Citizens have been urged to immediately report any violations by calling 100.
Earlier, District Election Officer RV Karnan had stated that cases were also registered against several non-local public representatives for MCC violations.
The BRS had lodged complaints with election officials, alleging that several Congress legislators from outside the constituency were seen near polling stations. As per the report, BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha accused the ruling Congress of indulging in electoral malpractices and alleged that its leaders were intimidating voters.
Sunitha further claimed that Congress MLAs and MLCs had been present in the constituency since Monday, but the Election Commission failed to act against them. The BRS legal cell said it had submitted five complaints to the Chief Electoral Officer against former deputy mayor Baba Fasihuddin, Congress MLAs, MLCs, and other leaders for MCC violations.
The opposition party also alleged that Congress legislators were found carrying voter slips and attempting to lure voters with cash. It further claimed that Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka himself was seen moving around polling centres accompanied by his vehicle convoy.
